Helping Hand for GOP Dames Helps Us All

Would someone please tell me what is going on in the universe that is making me have to defend Republican women???

Ann Romney is being criticized, by some, for never working outside of the home.
One, working inside the home is work. Without quality raising of children, we would be done for as a species.
Two, women need to stop devaluing other women's experiences and choices. Many parents of any gender would choose to stay home if they could, but most can't. The choice to focus on children is just different than choosing to have a job outside of the home.
Three, hey media, not everything is fucking news. People are dying everywhere, but especially of hunger in THIS country (food network is doing a special, watch it, learn something); from grotesque inhumane war in several countries in Africa; and much, much, much more. Educate us about that and stop making every freakin' sound bite a headline.

I wish more of us stopped watching the news until it actually became the news again.

Speaking of the news, the head of Fox News, says he only hired Sarah Palin because she "is hot and would get ratings" not because he found her particularly bright or having a chance of being president.

This is insulting because yet again women are judged on their looks. Palin may never have been thrust in the public eye if she had been considered generally unattractive. Thus, this action then reinforced 1) the idea that pretty women are not suited to lead (sorry, she isn't suited to lead pretty or not); 2) only "ugly" women are, but behind closed doors because if you're "ugly" and a female leader, you must be a bitch and no one likes a bitch; 3) women can't get along. If I don't vote for Palin, the scrappy do-it-herself, stay-at-home mom turned governor then I am betraying women and my feminism.

No, I pick my female candidates just the same as the men: intelligence, common values, run the country (etc.), as I would- or as close as possible, and how the person speaks about others and their rights.

I just wish the media (ran still by men) would just not tear women down, base opinion on women's looks, and provide a fact-based debate on candidates. Thus probably giving us all increased chances of having female candidates.
